It all started when…

The Oklahoma Council for History Education was founded in the fall of 2004 by a group of history teachers from across the state of Oklahoma. Its two founding members were long-time members of the National Council for History Education, with one being the Oklahoma liaison to NCHE and the National Secondary Teacher of the Year for the National Council for Social Studies, so they brought their passion for history on a national level to the founding of the OKCHE as a state partner of NCHE. Working with the University of Central Oklahoma as its Principal Partner Institution and guided by a board of teachers from across the state, OKCHE has offered annual Symposia since 2004 to help Oklahoma teachers and students. It has also coordinated with other states' councils and NCHE in the support of the teaching of history across the United States in both the public eye and the legislative arena.
